What’s Next for Us?
We’re getting older…..What’s next?
We’ve been married for nearly 28 years. We’ve got two girls named Katherine and Meredith, and both are in their twenties. Renee is a corporate accountant, and David is in education. Now that we’re almost at year 30 of our professional lives, we’re starting to peek around the corner and wonder what’s next for us? Because our jobs have both required intense focus, and because our girls were very active in school activities, we haven’t had much time to learn new skills and explore all the things available to us. To top it off, we now own the house David grew up in, a house built around 1890, a house that hasn’t had a significant renovation since the mid-1970s.

So this is about what’s next. How can two people who have experiences as professionals reframe their abilities for other uses? What new skills can we learn that have little to do with the past 27 years? What have we learned from our parents that will influence us? What insights on life and leadership have we gained through our professional backgrounds that we can share with others? And maybe most importantly, how can we approach aging in a way that provides purpose and curiosity so that our retirement years are full of joy, creativity, struggle, satisfaction, reflection, and spirituality?
